Entrepreneurship skills / education
ETUCE: Participates in the implementation process of the EU 2020 and Education and Training 2020 flagship initiatives, among others, via active representation in Open Method of Coordination Working Groups of the European Commission; Monitors EU initiatives on linking education and employment, skills and jobs, learning and job forecasting and on youth employment. Participates in setting up and monitoring the implementation of EU policy on all prioritised areas of education, for instance learning mobility, teaching languages, entrepreneurship education, maths and science education, education for sustainable development, etc. Advocates the provision of quality education and monitors the set-up of quality assurance mechanisms at European and national levels; Carries forward and seeks new opportunities for cooperation with other unions and professional organisations working on education, such as the EFEE; ETUC, EPSU, ESU, ATEE, etc
Entrepreneurship education should prepare the students to obtain democratic skills and educate people for life promoting initiative, taking responsibility and analysing situations. ETUCE believes that developing skills and competences like creativity, initiative, tenacity, and teamwork are essential for all students and not only for future entrepreneurs to develop businesses. These skills are essential to equip a generation that will work effectively in all sectors and fuel the whole infrastructure for a successful European economy. Entrepreneurship education cannot be considered as competitiveness training, for example as the case of school competitions.
Membership
ETUCE has been member of the Open Method of Coordination Working Group of the European Commission on Entrepreneurship Education (2012-2014, 2014-2016).
Policy
ETUCE Statement on the European Commission's Communication on Entrepreneurship 2020 Action Plan (2013) disagrees with the very narrow perception of entrepreneurship education conceived as a business development model as outlined in the Entrepreneurship 2020 Action Plan.
