OECD Study: Skills for Social Progress, the Power of Social and Emotional Skills
Published:The OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) has published the study "Skills for Social Progress, the Power of Social and Emotional Skills." The report aims to analyse how social and emotional skills affect the future "economic and social outcome" of children and how education systems can foster these skills.
Through strong relationships between teachers, parents and children, "hands-on workplace experience" and target programmes for disadvantaged families' schools should support children in developing social and emotional skills. Due to a skills-based labour market, it is necessary that schools enhance their student's sense of responsibility, capacity to work in groups and self-confidence. ETUCE highlights that education systems should not only be seen as a social investment or be purely outcome orientated, instead they should enable people to increase their well-being and support social inclusion.
