Bazaar: Second Language Training for Migrants
Published:The project, Bazaar: Learn and Exchange at the Marketplace, aims to support adults with a migrant background to learn a second language. Bazaar organises projects in different member states, such as UK, Italy and Bulgaria, which support migrants in language learning and in enhancing social dialogue and in empowering individuals to have a social life outside their family. The idea is to find the target groups at places where they already interact and feel comfortable, such as the market place.
In the UK learning activities for Pakistani immigrant women took place at their children's school, a local supermarket, the library and a gymnasium to help the women leave their 'comfort zone'. From this European Commission funded project, a Transferability Toolkit and Book of the Wor(l)d have been published, which give an excellent overview about the different projects carried out in the member states.
