Croatia: Teacher’s protest action for better salaries

The beginning of academic year 2019-2020 is to start with teachers’ protest in Croatia. Two of the ETUCE member organisations in the country, the Croatian Teachers’ Union and the Independent Trade Union of Workers in Secondary Education of Croatia are organising protest action on 5 September 2019.
Teachers and other education personnel are to take to the streets to demand increase in teachers’ salaries, respect of collective agreements and legal acts as well as constructive social dialogue in the Croatian education system.
“In order to create a better education system, we must not forget to take care of those who work with our children. It is very important to establish a constructive social dialogue with the government that needs to show understanding for those who work in the education system for the benefit of the entire country”, stated Croatian education trade union.
More resources must be invested in the education system in order to achieve better material and immaterial working conditions that are precondition for a better functioning education system for a present and future generations.
Wishing that this protest delivers changes on the current situation, on behalf of ETUCE, Susan Flocken, ETUCE European Director, expressed unequivocal solidarity with the Croatian Teachers’ Union and the Independent Trade Union of Workers in Secondary Education of Croatia.
