Teachers in primary and secondary have been on strike since 10 October demanding a decent pay rise which recognises the high workload and complexity of the profession. ETUCE stands on solidarity with the Croatian member organisations and supports their fair demand for a salary increase of on average 6.11 % for all employees in primary and secondary education.

We have continuously repeated that low status of the teaching profession is reflected in the high workload, lack of continuous professional development and the lack of public funding. When it comes to the teaching profession, all across Europe one can observe the common trend of an ageing workforce and the brain drain of skilled professionals to other sectors or countries.
