ETUCE joins the “European Intellectual Property Network in Education”
Published:Following the ETUCE Copyright conference on 11 April 2018, funded by the EUIPO, the European Office for Intellectual Property. ETUCE has been admitted as a new member to the “European Intellectual Property in Education network”. Following the Intellectual Property and education in Europe study, the IP in Education Network was set up in 2016 in Alicante (Spain), aiming to discuss how to encourage and enhance creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship among European educators and students. Occasionally, they offer policy guidance and teacher training in the field of IP in education.
The network is considered mainly a pedagogical body made up of Ministries of Education from all EU Member States supported by respective Intellectual Property Offices and other relevant stakeholders like teachers and educators and their associations.
This particular network is dedicated to:
- Create a practical social network between the civil servants working with the same issues in 28 Member States;
- Produce a relevant set of IP facts and figures to facilitate the decision-making processes;
- Explore together relevant national curricula as case studies of countries that have already introduced IP notions in their school-curricula;
- Take part in consultations of the European Commission on key competences by proposing a common answer indicating set of competences with IP related content;
- Collect and share good practice between the network members (positive and effective projects, materials, campaigns, etc.) If necessary, develop and test modern, up to date resources for pupils and teachers that could serve as best practice examples.
Noteworthy is the planned establishment of an ‘Education Council’, which will provide ETUCE the opportunity to influence policy and legal developments in the areas of entrepreneurship education, research and innovation and intellectual property in a broad sense. The network is free-of-charge and typically meets twice a year.
