‘Refugees and others in need of protection’ was published on 28 January 2016 and is the first volume in the OECD-series Making Integration Work. This volume takes stock of - and compares policy strategies for the integration of refugees and others in need of protection in OECD countries. It summarises some of the experiences of OECD countries in the integration of refugees and others in need of protection and gives 10 policy lessons with supporting examples of good practices in OECD countries. One of the policy lessons OECD suggests is the development of specific support programmes for unaccompanied minors who arrive past the age of compulsory schooling. According to the OECD, these minors should get the opportunity to learn the host country’s language and build the skills that are necessary for durable integration.

Further volumes of this series will address the assessment and recognition of foreign qualifications, the integration of young people with a migrant background, language training for adult migrants, and the integration of family migrants.
