Ukraine: TUESWU and the Ministry of Education and Science sign Sectoral Agreement
Published:On 26 May 2021, the Trade Union of Education and Science Workers (TUESWU) of Ukraine concluded a new Sectoral Agreement with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for the period 2021-2025.
The provisions and safeguards contained in the Sectoral Agreement are used by local organisations to address issues related to employment contracts, salaries, working hours and resting periods, and additional benefits and guarantees. They are the basis for concluding collective agreements directly in educational institutions. Such agreements have been concluded in the vast majority of cities and regions of the country and cover almost 23.000 educational institutions.
The President of the TUESWU, Georgy Trukhanov, stressed that the achievements of the Sectoral Agreement included a positive increase in education workers' salaries, in the duration of annual leave for preschool teachers, and of students’ scholarships.
"Social dialogue is a real path to change for the better and the whole of Europe recognises that. Our Trade Union is convinced that the path of social dialogue will remain a priority in relations with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in addressing crucial problems of the education sector, creating decent working conditions and opportunities for further learning”, Georgy Trukhanov concluded.
Serhii Shkarlet, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, stressed that the new Sectoral Agreement had more than 15 new clauses that would be implemented in cooperation with the Trade Union.
“It is difficult to single out priority positions in the new Sectoral Agreement, they are all important. I am very grateful to the trade union, to the experts of the Ministry who negotiated it and I am happy to sign it”, the Minister said.
