Kosovo: Call for action to support public employees in education

SBASHK, ETUCE member organisation in Kosovo, reports about the Parliament vote on the Salary Bill which was strongly criticised by the education trade union and its affiliates and which is expected to be held on 31 January 2019, despite a large-scale protest action in Kosovo.
As SBASHK informed earlier, the Bill entails explicit discrimination against public employees in education placing them in an unequal position in comparison with other employees in the public sector.
Following the number of idle talks between SBASHK and Kosovar government officials, as a false appearance of a dialogue, and in the run-up to the scheduled Parliament vote, ETUCE calls on its member organisations to show solidarity with public employees in education in Kosovo and support SBASHK’s demands to Kosovar authorities to:
- postpone the vote on the Bill on Salaries in the public sector, in particular in relation to the position of public employees in education;
- relaunch constructive and transparent negotiations with education social partners;
- increase teachers’ salaries by at least 30% as it has been constantly promised by the Government.
