A Women’s Forum for teachers in Kosovo

ETUCE member organisation SBASHK has launched a new representative body especially for its women members. This step is an excellent development for gender equality, women's rights and the promotion of women’s leadership in unions in Kosovo.

As revealed by the recent ETUCE study Education Trade Unions Addressing Gender Equality Through Social Dialogue, women are often underrepresented in trade union leadership. What is more, many education trade unions do not have specific structures to deal with gender equality issues.

Now ETUCE member organisation SBASHK is taking a positive step to improve the situation, by launching its Women’s Forum. The move, which harmonises the SBASHK statutes with those of the national Confederation BSPK, creates a new body with its own work plans focussing on the issues facing women teachers in Kosovo. Delegates at the launch meeting elected Vlora Rexhepi Berisha as President of the Women’s Forum.
