Film on inclusion in German schools

From 4 May onwards, a film entitled “ICH.DU.INKLUSION.” on inclusion in German schools will be shown in German cinemas. The VBE, a German education trade union and ETUCE member organisation is involved in the project.

Director Thomas Binn produced a long-term documentary on inclusion in the German school system. Two years after introducing the right to education for all children in regular schools and promoting an inclusive education system, the film shows that there are still many unanswered questions. The project aims at giving a voice to children and education personnel and to trigger a public debate.

The German education trade union VBE is a partner in this project, accompanying the screening of the film and the related activities, such as discussion rounds. Their federal chairman Udo Beckmann said: “Oftentimes, an idea of what inclusion means for everyone involved is lacking, and that is the problem. We often have accused politicians of making decisions in their ivory tower. The movie and the following discussion sessions offer the opportunity to receive information about the reality in German schools.”
