Bulgarian Union of Teachers awards social partners and discusses the integration of migrants through education

On 16 December 2016, Bulgarian Union of Teachers (SEB) held a ceremony awarding the best directors of schools and kindergartens, journalists, leaders of SEB, and mayors in Bulgaria for 2016. The ceremony, which took place in Park Hotel “Moscow”, in Sofia, was the final stage of the four prestigious national competitions of SEB: "Unionists of the Year", "Best Social Partner – Director", "Journalist of the year", and "Best Social partner - Mayor".

Yanka Takeva, President of SEB, handed the highest award of SEB: the “Golden  badge”  and  the diploma  for  high  achievements,  personal  contribution, dedication  and  professionalism  in  trade  union  activities in 2016 to 30 trade unionists. 15 mayors and 25 school principals were awarded as “Best Social Partners”. Finally, 13 journalists reflecting and promoting the activities of SEB in the most objective way were awarded by Martin Rømer, former European Director of ETUCE. In his speech, Martin Rømer congratulated SEB for having many good relationships with local authorities and mayors.

SEB contributes to the social dialogue and important discussions on the educational issues not only at national, but also at international level. On 23-25 February 2017, the Bulgarian Union of Teachers organises an International Conference on the integration of migrants through education, “Road of the migrants - problems and solutions for integration through the educational systems.” Among participants are representatives from the Bulgarian government, President of CITUB Plamen Dimitrov, European Director of ETUCE Susan Flocken, and teachers and trade unionists from various European countries.
