Building union democracy at the workplace
Aimed at increasing participation and engagement, and at developing union capacity at the level of the workplace and of the branch, INTO set in train a series of internal actions entailing the establishment of District Development Coordinators to support local branches, the provision of online courses and trainings to support school representatives in their roles and responsibilities, and a Taskforce on Participation. The Taskforce consisted of a variety of differing union members and representatives from all Districts. It was tasked with the drafting of a report outlining recommendations and a 3-year implementation plan. Although actions are ongoing, the union is already learning from it in terms of project traction and leadership and overall union buy-in.
